This session will focus on helping C4L teachers to examine their math-related knowledge, beliefs, and practices in order to deepen their understanding of how to support children coming to C4L classrooms with differing mathematics backgrounds. The session begins by exploring how young children build mathematics knowledge connected to the C4L learning trajectory model. The mathematics content throughout the session will focus on groups/grouping, informal and formal measurement, and number sense. Particular attention will be given to the strategies for scaffolding content for children who need additional support. Connecting to these 3 content areas, the session will culminate in directed examples for informal assessments. Teachers will be encouraged to work with each other to develop strategies for connecting informal assessment data to day-to-day curricular supports for children.
