Children may be exposed to a variety of frightening images and upsetting reports about both local and global events. Developmentally, most are not ready to process this information, so they rely on trusted adults to help them feel safe and make sense of what they see and hear. This session will help teachers learn how to respond to children's questions and behaviors during world events such as wars, natural disasters, and acts of terrorism; it will also help them learn how to manage children's media exposure. Note: this session does not discuss hands-on crisis strategies such as evacuation or safety plans.
